Design Love: Cheaper By the Dozen
I watched Cheaper By The Dozen today and I must say, it was adorable and delightful. No, I’m not talking about that one with Steve Martin, which then led to Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (which was probably as cheaply made), but the original movie from 1950. If you like old movies you should watch this one.
Frank and Lilly Gilbreth:
I loved the aesthetic of the whole film, especially the set design. Check out the wallpaper and color palette of the Gilbreth home. It appears rather dark when taken out of context, but when filled with the Gilbreth family antics and the lightheartedness of the story, it hardly feels gloomy:

Here’s Martha acting like a beeyatch about being the only one who doesn’t have to get her tonsils taken out.

But the Nantucket beach house is much cuter! Shabby chic even! I love the classroom wall map:

and the living room:

Frank in his vacation clothes is on the cutting edge of fashion:

Ernestine and Ann in their modest 1920s swimwear trying to get that hottie, Tom Black to pay attention to them:

Tom Black is like Ernestine and Ann’s Ryan Gosling (check out those painted girls showing their knees, so indecent!):

I have so many more stills that I took of the movie but if you’re interested you should just watch it! It’s on Netflix Instant Streaming if you have an account.
